செல்லும் மார்க்கம் : செங்கல்பட்டு – திருப்போரூர் சாலையில் 10 கீ.மீ  தொலைவிலுள்ள ஷேத்திரம் பேருந்து நிறூத்த்திலிருந்து சுமார் ஒரு கி.மீ தூரத்தில் மலையடிவாரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள பதியிது.

செங்கற்பட்டு ரயில் நிலையத்திலிருந்து திருப்போருர் செல்லும் பேருந்தில் ஏறி திருவடி சூலம் சாலை நிறுத்த்தில் இற்ங்கி ஒரு  கீ.மீ சென்றால் ஸ்தலத்தை அடையலாம். சாலை யோரத்தில் கோயில் பெயர்ப்பலகை வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. தனியார் வாகன்ங்கள் ஆலயம் வரை செல்லும். ஊர்க்கோடியில் கோவில் உள்ளது. புராதனமான கோயில். மலைகள் சூழ்ந்த இயற்கைச் சூழ்ந்த இயற்க்கை சூழலில் வயல்களையொட்டி அமைந்துள்ளது.

Entrance

ஸ்தல புராணம்: மலைகளுக்கு இடையில் உள்ள ஸ்தலம் என்பதாலும் இடையன் வடிவில் ஈசன் இங்கு பிரத்யட்சமாகி அருள் புரிந்த்தாலும்(இடை + ஈசுவரம்) இப்பதி இடைச்சுரம் எனப் பெயர் பெற்றது.

தகஷிணாமூர்த்தியின் சீடர்களுள் ஒருவரான சனத்குமாரர் தன் பொற்பாதங்களை இங்கு பதித்து மரகதலிங்கமான ஸ்ரீஞான புரீஸ்வரரை பூஜித்திருக்கிறார்.

அகலிகையின் பதியான கெளதமரிஷியும் இடைச்சுரநாதரை ஆராதித்துப்பல பேறுகள் பெற்றுள்ளார்.

உமா தேவியார் இப்பகுதியல் பசுவடிவம் கொண்டு வந்து மரகதலிங்கத்தின்மீது பால் சொரிந்து வழிபட்டிருக்கிறார்.

Gopuram

ஆலய அமைப்பு : சுமார் 2000 ஆண்டு புராதனமான ஆலயம். இத்தலதில் விருட்சத்தில் பதினோரு முக வில்வதளம் விசேஷமாகும். இதை ஞான புரீஸ்வர்ருக்கு சாற்றி வணங்கினால் எண்ணியது ஈடேறும் எனப்படுகிறது.

க்ருங்கல் கட்டுமானம். முகப்பு வாயிலுக்கு முன்னால் இடப்பக்கம் வரசித்தி விநாயகர். வலப்பக்கம் தாமரைத்தடாகம் இருக்கிறது. தெற்குப்பார்த்த வாசல் – இரண்டு பிராகாரங்கள். வெளிச்சுற்றின் ஈசான்ய பாகத்தில் பிரம்மாண்டேஸ்வரர் மேற்க்கு நோக்கி அருள், பிரம்மாண்டேஸ்வரி சன்னிதி தெற்கு முகமாகத் தரிசணமளிக்கிறார். கூடவே இரண்டு சிவலிங்கங்களும் உள்ளன.

சற்றூதள்ளீ பலிபிடம் நந்திமண்டபம் காணப்படுகின்றன. ஸ்தல விருட்சம் வேம்புடன் பிண்ணிப் பிணைந்துள்ளது. சன்னிதிக்குப் போக தெற்க்கே ஒருவாயிலும் உள்ளன. மகாமண்டபத்தையொட்டி ஸ்வாமி சன்னிதி கிழக்கு முகமாகவும், அம்பாள் சன்னிதி தெற்க்கு நோக்கியும் அமைந்துள்ளன.

உள் முகப்பு வாசலில் பிரவேசித்து, மண்டபம் கடந்து, பிரதட்சிணமாக வந்தால் சைவ நால்வரைத் தரிசிக்கலாம். வள்ளி தெய்வயானை சமேத முருகப் பெருமானும், கணபதி, பைரவரையும் அடுத்து காணலாம்.

கருவறை அழகி அமைப்புடையது. நல்லகற்றளி. மூலவர் சன்னிதிக்கு இரண்டு பக்கமும் விக்னேஸ்வர்ரும், சுப்பரமண்யரும் காட்சி கொடுக்கின்றனர்.

அம்பிகை தெற்க்குமுகமாக நின்ற திருக்கோல நாயகியாய் எழிலுற அருள் பொழிகின்றாள்.

Temple - Interior

ஸ்ரீ ஞான புரீஸ்வரர் மரகதலிங்கம். சுயம்பு மூர்த்தி. தீபாராதனை சமயம் பச்சை ஒளி பிரகாசமாய் தெரிகிறது. சதுரபீட ஆவுடையார். கிழ்க்கு முகமாகத் தரிசன மளிக்கிறார். கோஷ்ட மூர்த்தங்கள் முறைப்படி அமைந்துள்ளன.

அருகே ஒரு அரசாணிக் குளமும் இருக்கிறது.

SwamiSannathi

திருவிழா: சிவராத்திரி 4 காலங்களிலும் முறையாக நடைபெறுகின்றது. பிரதோஷ விழா சிறப்பாக்க் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இரண்டு கால ஆராதனை நடக்கிறது.

கல்வெட்டு : குலோத்தூங்க சோழன் கல்வெட்டு ஆலயத்துள் இருக்கிறது. அதில் குலோத்துங்கனின் ஆலயப்புனருத்தாரணம், நித்திய பூஜை, மற்றும் விளக் கெரித்தல் ஆகியவை பொறிக்கப் பட்டுள்ளன.

பல்லவர் பாணியிலும், விஜயநகர மன்னர்களின் கட்டுமான மாகவும் அமைந்த ஆலயமிது.

தரிசன நேரம்: காலை 7-30 முதல் 11-00 மணி வரை:

மாலை 4-30 முதல்  7-00 மணி வரை:

நவராத்திரி , ஆடிப்புரம், ஐப்பசி அன்னாபிஷேகம், சித்ரா பெளர்ணமி, பங்குனி உத்திரம் திருகல்யாணம் ஆகியவையும் விசேஷமாக நட்த்துகின்றனர்.

Temple Surroundings

பலன்: புதன் தசை, புதன் புக்தி, ஜாதகத்தின் புதன் நீசமாயிருக்கப் பிறந்தவர்கள் இந்த ஞானேஸ் வரருக்கு தேன் அபிஷேகம் செய்து ஒருமண்டலம் அருந்தினால் தோல் நோய்கள் குணமாகும். தம்பதியரிடம் அன்யோன்யம் பெருகும்.

திருப்பணி  வேலைகள் நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. பங்கு கொண்டு புண்ணியம் சேர்க்க விரும்பும் அன்பர்கள் திருக்கோவிலை தொடர்பு கொள்ளவும். தைமாதம் நடக்க விருக்கும் குடமுழுக்கில் பக்தர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டு குறைகளைக் களைந்து கொள்ளவும்.

Kalahasti-திருக்காளத்தி

This holy temple is present in the Chittor district of A.P, 40 kms away from “Tirupathi” & 120 kms away from Chennai.  It is famously called as “Kalastri(காளாஸ்திரி)” by local people.  This is vayu sthalam (வாயுத்தலம்) one of the panjabootha sthalams.

The meaning of the name kalahasati is that three animals namely “Spider”, “Snake” & “Elephant” has worshipped this lord.

ஸ்ரீ-காளம்-அத்தி  –> சிலந்தி-பாம்பு-யானை.

This temple is also called Malai (மலை ),  Kailasagiri  (கைலாசகிரி).

This temple is a famous “Raghu-Kethu (ராகு-கேது)” stalam.

When u go near the temple you can see the tall Galli Gopuram (காளி கோபுரம்). This was constructed by the famous ruler Sri Krishnadeva raya in 1516 A.D.

After passing on this we can reach the main entrance known as “Pishashala Gopuram (பிக்ஷசாலா கோபுரம்)”. This was completed by “Veera Narashima Yadhavarayar” on 12th century.

This temple is placed in anti-clockwise (அப்பிரதக்ஷண) direction. When you enter there are sannathi’s for “Vinayagar” & “Balanayanambaal”. Next to that, there is “Panchamukeeswarar” sivalingam. Then when you move forward there is “Bathala Vinayagar” sannathi which  has a narrow entrance and one has to go 20 steps underground to get his darshan. There is belief that this ganapathi is placed at “Ponmugali river (பொன்முகலி)”basement because once sage “Agasthiyar” came to this temple and forgot to worship this ganapathi. Due  to this that river dried out. Knowing this the sage agasthiyar felt sorry and worshipped God Ganapathi at bathalam (River basement). Opposite to this there is sivarathiri mandapam.

Then near opposite  to swami sannnathi, there is hollow hole filled with mud in the floor. During “Karthikai Deepam” in this place only “Sokhapanai (சொக்கப்பானை)  would be placed. In this palm tree (பனை) dried leaves are placed.  In this sesame (எள்ளு) is made as Agal Villaku  and in that gingelly oil is poured with threads placed and they are lightened. After all of them are  burnt they would take the left out thinks in that villaku and would grind and would apply as a tilakam (பொட்டு) to the lord. This is very famous here.

Then when we move forward we will be able to see “Thirumanjana Gopuram“. From here you will be able to see ponmugali river. From here only “Kannapar” brought the water and made “Abishekam” to the lord. In this temple you can see the statue of “ Ramanathan Chettiyar (இராமநாதன் செட்டியார்)” who on 1912 gave 9 lakh rupees for some completion of work to this temple and also performed “Maha Kumababeshekam“.

There are two kodimarams in this temple. One is covered by “Kavasam” and another is 60 feet made up by a single stone. The main gopuram is called “Dakshina (தக்ஷிண) Gopuram“. There is a well inside this called “Saraswathi theertham“. There is belief that people who are not able to speak properly when given this theertham will be cured.

All three “Thirunayana sambandar“, “Thirunavukarasar” and “Sundarar” have sung Thevara hymns in praise of this lord.

God – Sri Kalahastheeswarar swami (ஸ்ரீ காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வர சுவாமி), Kalathinathar.

Goddess – Gyanaprasunnambikai ( ஞானப்பிரசுன்னாம்பிகை), Gyana poongothai.

Sthala Viruksham – Makizham ( மகிழம்)

Theertham – Swarnamukhi.

The lord is suyambu lingam. The swami is covered by “Gold Kavasam” which is very attractive and beautiful. In this kavasam 27 stars are placed. During wearing and removing this kavasam hand should not be placed on the lingam. The Siva Lingam is very tall.

In this lingam the basement portion is like spider (சிலந்தி வடிவம்), in the middle looks like tusks of elephant (யானையின் தந்தங்கள்), and in the top looks like five headed snake (ஐந்து தலை நாகம்).  Then in the right side of the lingam there is the mark where “Kannapar” placed his eye.

Opposite to the lord there is “Whitestone Nandhi” & a “Bronze Nandhi“. Holy Ganges water is only used for the lord for performing abishekam. This temple will not be closed in afternoon, will be opened in morning and closed at night. In this temple there is no “Arthajama pooja (அர்த்தஜாமப் பூஜை)”, at 8 pm after “Sayarathai pooja (சாயரட்சை)” the temple will be closed.

After the dharshan of the lord if we go further we can see “Sahasra Lingam“. Since this temple is to resolve problems caused by Navagraham’s so there is no establishment for them. There is only a separate sannathi for “Sanneswarar“. Then there are sannathi’s for “Kala Bairavar“, “Kanaga Durga” & “Dravpathi amman“.

Then after that we can reach the Goddess sannathi. Below the feet of the goddess the “Arthameru (அர்த்தமேரு)” which is placed by the Great “Adi Sankara”. In the Ottiyanam (ஒட்டியானம்) of the goddess “Kethu’s image” is placed. During all Friday’s ambaal is suited with “Gold frock ( தங்கப் பாவாடை)”.

During we revolve the ambaal sannathi there in a corner there is a image in the floor showing “Three heads joined together“.  In this place there is a powerful sakthi yanthiram. It is important to sit there and meditate for few minutes.

During mughal rule  most of the temples were damaged. In order to avoid these another siva lingam was placed before the main moola lingam. As they came, they damaged this and went off and then after some time the main sannathi was opened. This  Siva lingam is also placed. A big “Spadiga Lingam” is also present.

After having dharshan of all sannathi’s as we come outside and see a small mountain namely “Kailasagiri“. Locals call it as “Kannappar malai (கண்ணப்பர் மலை)”. There are steps to climb and if we do can see a Shiva Lingam.  There is also a sannathi for “Kannappar”. From this small mountain we can view the entire town.

The area covered by this mountain is 25 kms.   This temple is called as “Dakshina Kailasam“, “AkandaVilvaranyam” & “Baskarashethram“. The famous saying is that “ஸ்ரீ காளத்தி பிரவேச மூத்தி” that means if we stay in this place we would attain salvation.

“Kailai Paathi Kalathi Paathi  (கயிலைபாதி காளாத்திபாதி)” is the book written by the famous poet “Nakirar” in this place.

During “Maha Siva-Rathiri” there is a ten day celebration across the town which is very famous.

In this place there is “Kalayana manadapam and a lodge” by “Thirumalai-Thirupathi devasthanam“.

Sirkazhi (சீர்காழி)

This holy temple is located near Chidambaram. This place is mostly known for its association with “Thirunayana Samandhar” where he was born and the “Nyanapaal” (ஞானப்பால்) which he drank given by the Goddess and God inside the temple premises.

This temple lord is worshipped by God Murugan, Goddess Kali, God Brahma, God Vishnu, Prakaspathi (குரு), Indran, Chandran, Agni, Aadisheshan, Raghu, Kethu & the sage Vyasar.

This temple other names are listed below

1. As God Brahma worshipped this lord the name “Brahmapuram” (பிரமபுரம்).

2. In this temple the lord is in the form of Bamboo (மூங்கில்) so “Venupuram” (வேணுபுரம்).

3. The Devas who was afraid of the Suran came here for protection hence the name “Pugali” (புகலி).

4. Deva Guru Prakaspathi worshipped this lord so the name “Vengguru” (வெங்குரு).

5. During the time of destruction (பிரளய காலம்) the Lord with Goddess Uma Devi stays here hence “Thonipuram” (தோணிபுரம்).

6. Varaha Murthi has worshipped the lord hence the name “Puntharai” (பூந்தராய்).

7. Since Goddess Kali argued with Thillai Peruman (தில்லைப்பெருமான்) she worshipped the lord so the name “Sri Kali” (ஸ்ரீ காளி (or) சீகாழி).

8. Sage Paracharar (பராசரர்) worshipped hence the name “Kochai Vyam” (கொச்சை வயம்).

9. Raghu devoted the lord so the name “Sirapuram” (சிரபுரம்).

10. Sage Uromasa (உரோமச) devoted the lord so the temple got the name “Kazhumalam” (கழுமலம்).

The temple is located in the middle of the town and has four beautiful gopurams. Kananatha Nayanar (கணநாத நாயனார்) has devoted this lord.

God- Brahampureeswarar (பிரமபுரிஸ்வரர்), Thoniyappar, Sattanathar

Goddess- Periyanayaki, Thirunilainayaki (திருநிலைநாயகி)

Sthala Viruksham- Parijatham (பாரிசாதம்).

Theertham- Brahma Theertham (Includes 22 theerthangal)

In brahma Theertham only Thirunayana Samandhar had “Nyanapaal” (ஞானப்பால்) given by Goddess. For that rememberance only “Thirumulaipaal Urchavam” (திருமுலைப்பால் உற்சவம்) takes place here in Chithirai Peruvizha second day. There is famous saying that “.திருமுலைப்பால் உண்டார் மறுமுலைப்பால் உண்ணார்”

Three forms of the lord are present here.

1. Adibagam (அடிபாகம்) Brahampureeswarar (பிரமபுரிஸ்வரர்) which is performed by Brahma.
2. EdaiPaguthi (இடைப்பகுதி) i.e. middle one is (தோனியப்பர்) which is Guru Vadivam who gave Nyanapaal (ஞானப்பால்) to Samandhar.
3. Sattanathar (சட்டைநாதர்) is the ultimate one-Sangama Vadivam (சங்கம வடிவம்).

Thirunayana Samandhar, Thirunavukarasar and Sundarar have sung Devara hymns in praise of this lord. This temple is maintained by “Dharmai Aathinam”.  Manikavasakar, Arunagirinathar, Pattinathu Adigal, Nambiyandar Nambi and many more have sung many songs about the significance of Sirkazhi and Samandhar.

East Rajagopuram is the main entrance. The famous Devara hymn sung by Samandhar immediately he drank the Nyanapaal “தோடுடைய செவியன்…” is sculptured inside and outside the temple premises. When we go further inside the temple we can see the lord Brahampureeswarar who has ashes (விபூதி) in his body and wearing pattu (பட்டு) dhoti around him near the shrine you can the sculptures of Thirunayan Samandhar’s important events that took place in his life. Sannathi’s for somaskandhar and aruvathimuvar are also there.

Then if we climb the mount steps there we can reach Thoniyappar (தோனியப்பர்) sannathi. It looks like kailash. From here we can have a clean view of Brahma Theertham.

At the top of the mount there is “SattaNathar”. We should go inside a narrow way and should climb wooden steps and should get the blessings of this lord. Men should not wear shirts and women should not wear flowers in their head while worshipping this lord at the shrine.

Every Friday after 10 pm finishing the arthajama pooja (அர்த்தசாம) the lord is covered by Punugu and oil. (புனுகுஎண்ணெய்)

Then Vadai and Payasam done in ghee are given as neivethyam (நிவேதனம்) to the lord.

Sirkazhi Arunachala Kavirayar (அருணாசலக் கவிராயர்) has sung the Sthala Puranam of this temple.

Nambiyandar Nambi has sung many poems like “Mumanikovai” (மும்மணிக்கோவை), Thirusanpai viruththam (திருசண்பை விருத்தம்) etc in praise of Samandhar.

Festivals:

For thirunayan Samandhar pooja is performed daily.

“Thirumulaipaal Urchavam” (திருமுலைப்பால் உற்சவம்) takes place here in Chithirai Peruvizha second day

Thai Amavasai, Vaikasi Moolam, Ipasi sathayam are the days where special pooja’s are performed.

Daily four time’s pooja is performed tothe Lord in the top of the mount “Sattanathar”.

Navarathiri and Aadipuram are famous for the Goddess Thirunilainayaki (திருநிலைநாயகி).

This temple is located in at Mayiladuthurai – Thiruvarur road. From there we have to go to “Peralam” and then turn to Thiruvarur salai and travel, then will have to reach “Kambur” (கம்பூர்) road railway gate, from there 2K.M we can arrive at “Meeyachur (திருமீயச்சூர்)”.

History:  In this temple God Surya (சூரியன்) has worshipped both the God and Goddess. The temple is faced in east direction. Thirunayana Samandhar has sung Devara hymns in praise of this lord. The Vimanam here is of the Gajaprishta (கஜப்பிரஷ்ட) style.

In this temple there are sannathi’s for Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingodbhavar, Brahma, Uma-Alinganamurthy, Durga and Rishabantikar. Goddess Lalithambika is very famous here and she gives all her blessings to the devotees arriving at this temple.

God- Meganathar (மேகநாதர்)

Goddess- Soundara Nayaki (செளந்திர நாயகி), Lalithambikai (லலிதாம்பாள்).

Sthala Viruksham- Vilvam.

Theertham- Surya Theertham

Inside this temple there is another Devara Sthalam namely “Thirumeeyachur Ilangkovil” (திருமீயச்சூர் இளங்கோவில்).

God- Sakalabhuvaneswarar (சகலபுவனேஸ்வரர்).

Goddess- Megalambikai (மேகலாம்பிகை).

God Kali has worshipped this lord. Thirunavukarasar has sung Devara hymns in praise of this lord. Many Festivals like Aadipperukku, Karthikai Deepam, Arudhra Darisanam, Ratha saptami, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Navaratri & Skanda Sashti are celebrated.

This holy temple is located in Mayiladuthurai – Tharangambadi road. Good transportation facilities are available.

It is one of “Atta veerattam (அட்ட வீரட்டம்)” Sthalam. It is also known as kadapuri (கடபுரி), vilvaranyam (வில்வாரண்யம்), piramaranthira Sthalam (பிரமரந்திரத்தலம்).

God – Amirthakadeswarar (அமிர்தகடேஸ்வரர்), Amirthalingeswarar.

Goddess- Abirami (அபிராமி).

Sthala Viruksham- Vilvam, Jathi (பிஞ்சிலம்)

Theertham- Amirtha Theertham.

Agasthiyar, Pulatheyar, Vasuki & Goddess Durga have worshipped this lord. Kunguliyaklaya Nayanar (குங்கிலியக்கலய நாயனார்) and Kari Nayanar (காரி நாயனார்) have born, worshipped this lord and attained salvation in this place. This temple belongs to Dharmai Aadinam (தருமையாதீனம்).

History:

Markandeya was the son of “Mirukandu Rishi” & Madurmathi. Once they prayed Lord Shiva for a boon to get a son by god’s grace. As a result he was given the choice of either a gifted son, but with a short life (16 years) on earth or a child of low intelligence but with a long life. Mirukandu rishi opted for the first one and the god blessed him with a son namely “Markandeya”. Markandeya while growing became a great devotee of Lord Shiva. When 16 years was completed Yama (God of death) chased him as his tenure for living in the earth was finished. But Markandeya ran and went inside the Thirukadaiyur temple and hugged the Shiva Lingam. Seeing this Yama took his pasakaiyuru and threw it to catch Markandeya. Accidentally the noose also tightened the lord as Markandeya was hugging him. The lord became angry came out of the Shiva lingam and stamped Yama to death.

So the lord is called “Kalasamhara Murthi” (காலசம்ஹார மூர்த்தி). After some time Bumadevi, God Vishnu & God Brahma asked the lord to forgive Yama and told to give him re-birth, the lord accepted it and gave Yama another life. So there is fact that this temple eradicates “Yamabayam (யமபயம்)”.

So this temple is special for the functions like Ukrakha santhi (உக்ரக சாந்தி), Beemaratha santhi (பீமரதசாந்தி), Sashtiyaptha purthi (சஷ்டியப்த பூர்த்தி), Satha abishekam (சதாபிஷேகம்) & Aayul Homam (ஆயுள்ஹோமம்). Thirunayana Samandhar, Thirunavukarasar and Sundarar have sung Devara hymns in praise of this lord. The water brought for abishekam for this temple is from Kasi Theertham at Thirukadaiyur mayanam (திருக்கடவுர் மயானம்).

The famous “Abirami Battar” who composed “Abirami Anthathi” in praise of the goddess “Abirami” also belongs to this place. Abirami battar was devotee of the goddess who was always in thought of her. At that time “King Saraboji” was ruling and when once he came to the temple Abirami battar didn’t notice the king since he was always in meditation of the goddess Abirami praising and singing hymns. So the king in order to test him asked “What is the theethi today?” Abirami Battar was in meditation observing the goddess face which was like a “Full moon” told “Pournami” (Poornima), but actually the original theethi was “Ammavasai” (New moon). Hearing his answer the ruler became angry and told “If there is no full moon today you will be burnt to flames”. But Abirami battar was not worried as he still began to meditate the goddess. At night he was sitting in a wooden plank and just thinking of the goddess and singing “Abirami Anthathi”. When he finished singing Goddess Abirami threw her ear ring in the sky which turned to be a full moon lighting the entire region.

The Temple: In this temple markandeyar performed abishekam to Amirthakadeswarar with pinjcilam (பிஞ்சிலம்) so this temple is also called as Pinjcillaranyam (பிஞ்சிலாரண்யம்). The sannathi of the lord is located in west direction, while the goddess is faced towards the east.

The name of the Vinayagar in this temple is known as “Kallavarna Pillaiyar” (கள்ளவாரணப் பிள்ளையார்). There are also sannathi’s for Markandeeswarar, Subramaniyar, Naganatheeswarar and gajalakshmi. Here in this temple Navagraha sannathi is not present.

The Raja gopuram is very attractive with some special and rare sculptures like “Gajasamhara Murthi”, “Paarkadal Kadaithal” etc.  The annual Bhrammotsavam is celebrated in the month of Chittirai. During Karthikai Somavaram (கார்த்திகைச் சோமவாரம்) 1008 sanga abishekam is performed to the lord.

Thirupamburam (Raghu-Kethu Sthalam)

This holy temple is located in 7 km west of Peralam. This temple is also known as “Urakapuram” and “Seshapuri”. King of serpents “Aadiseshan” has worshipped this Lord hence the name Pamburam. In order to get relieved from “Nagadosham”, people who don’t have “Child” and for “Raghu-Kethu” Dosham people come here and offer prayers to the lord. There is a fact that people don’t die of snake bite at this place.

Once Lord Vinayagar was offering prayers to “Lord Shiva”. At that time the serpent in the neck of the Lord thought that he too is worshipped by “Vinayagar”. Knowing this Lord Shiva got angry and cursed the serpents to lose all their “Shakthi”. In order to retrieve it Aadiseshan and other serpents came to earth in one “Maha Shiva rathri” and offered prayers to Kudanthai Nageshwarar in the morning, Thirunageshwaram at the noon, Thirupamburam Pambureswarar in the evening and Nagoor Nageshwarar at the night and got the blessings of the Lord. People too go and visit this temples the above way which would fetch them special significance.

“Thirunayana Samandhar” has sung Devara hymns in praise of this lord. The temple history suggests that snakes are present at this temple and in every “Sunday”, “Tuesday” and “Friday” odors of “Jasmine” and “Thazampu” are also felt.

In 26-5-2002 a snake skin was found (8.3 feet) like a “Maalai” in Lord Shiva shrine. Another Snake skin (7.5 feet) was there in “Ambal Shrine”.

Aaduthurai Perumal Temple- Thirukoodalur.

This temple is located in between Kumbakonam and Thiruvaiyaryu road, in the place Aaduthurai. This is one of the 108 Divya desams.

History:

This temple is referred in both “Bramanda Puranam” and “Padma Puranam”.  This reveals that Lord Thirumal when took “Varaha avatar” and came inside to this place of the earth.

Thirumangai Aalwar has sung Hymns in praise of this lord.

Once a ruler namely “Ambareshan” was living and he was a devotee of “Lord Vishnu”. Once sage “Dhuruvasar” came to his place and asked him to give the paalan of the Ekadesi veratham (Power he obtained from that Veratham). But Ambareshan didn’t notice the sage as he was meditating the Lord. But at that time Ekadesi theethi was over and “Dhuvadesi” arrived. Seeing that the sage became angry and cursed Ambareshan. On hearing that the ruler begins to worship “Maha Vishnu”, so the lord let this “Chakrayutham”, and that Chakra chased dhuruvasar. The sage at last surrendered to the lord and expressed sorry for his behavior, so the lord got back his Chakrayutham and relieved the sage at this temple.

So Ambareshan constructed a temple here and worshipped this lord. Once there was flood in Kaveri River which damaged this temple constructed by Ambareshan. So Lord Vishnu came to Rani Mangammal- the rani of Madurai dreams and told to construct the temple that was damaged. So the present temple situated is built by her.

Kuthanur Maha Saraswathi

This temple is dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi and is located between Mayiladutharai and Thiruvarur road. It is situated in place called Punthotam.

History:

Once God Brahma and Goddess Saraswathi were present in Sathya Lokha and talking to each other. As they talked, each of them boasted about their values.

As time was passing they begin to argue and finally cursed each other.

Both of them were born as Human mortals in earth, as brother and sister. They were born to person namely “Punyakeerthi”. Their names were Padukanthan and Sirathai. As they grow up their father thought they attained the age to be married. But how can a brother and sister marry?

Suddenly an Asariri rose from sky and told Brahma (Padukanthan) to bath in “RudraGangai” and go to Sathya Lokha & Goddess Saraswathi (Sirathai) to be the God of education at the place she was born.

Here Goddess Saraswathi has three eyes. The front two eyes give us the “Divine power” and the eyes in forehead gives “Knowledge”. Poet Ottakuthar has worshipped this goddess.

Devotees bring Stationeries (Note books and pen) and will keep them on the feet of the Goddess and get blessed.

THIRUNARAIYUR

This temple is situated between Chidambaram and Kattumannar Koil. It is 16 kms away from Chidambaram.

History:

A Gandarvan had troubled Sage Dhurvasar when he was on penance. So the sage cursed him to become a Stork (NARAI), and that stork worshipped Lord Shiva on this temple so the name Thiru naraiyur.

Nambiyandar Nambi was born on this holy place. He worshipped the famous Vinayagar in this temple namely “Polla Pillaiyar”, who blessed him, which paved the way to find the Thevara Thirumuraigal at Chidambaram.

Thirunayana Samandhar & Thirunavukarasar have sung Thevara Hymns praising the Lord in this temple.

Opposite to this temple home of Nambiyandar Nambi is present.
